This article only applies to Exchange 2007/2010 accounts with POP/IMAP service enabled. Read the Knowledge Base article on POP/IMAP email for more information about POP/IMAP service.
If you would like to be able to perform Global Address List (GAL) lookups in a mail client that is configured for your POP/IMAP mailbox, you will need to configure the address book to connect to the LDAP server. This article provides LDAP setup instructions for Microsoft Outlook 2007/2010. However, these instructions can be applied to any widely-used mail client, following the same basic steps.
- In Outlook, go to Tools > Account Settings. Switch to Address Books.
- Click New.
- Select Internet Directory Service (LDAP) and click Next.
- Specify the LDAP server name.
To find out the correct LDAP setting, navigate to CONTROL PANEL > Get Started Here! > Step 2 > Mac Setup instructions.
- Select the This server requires me to log on box and type in the email address and the mailbox password.
- Click More Settings. Under Connection Details, select the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box and change the port number to 636.
- Open the Search tab. Under Search Base, choose Custom and put in the Search Base setting.
To find out the correct Search Base setting, navigate to CONTROL PANEL > Home > Get Started Here! > Step 2 > Mac Setup instructions. The settins looks like OU=ExchangeAccountUsername,OU=Hosting,DC=exch0xx,DC=domain,DC=local
Note: Make sure you replace ExchangeAccountUsername with your actual account username. To find out the correct Exchange Domain, navigate to CONTROL PANEL > Home > Get Started Here! > Advanced Settings.
- Click OK > Next > Finish.
- Restart Outlook.
Now you will be able to look up contacts from the global address list in Outlook > Tools > Address Book.
